On this way I want to introduce you to one of my basketball related items

For the past two seasons, I have been coaching my youngest daughter's local AAU (Amateur Athletic Union, similar to the club format you have in Europe) basketball team. We were 24-5 as U-12's, and 20-8 this past season as U-13's. Our team traveled to Ireland this past April to participate in a tournament and two other individual games. Our girls stayed with the families of players from the clubs we played against.

We went site seeing, and our girls attended two days of school with our home stay hostesses. Our girls' parents stayed in a local hotel. Both our girls and the Irish girls had a great time, and created friendships and memories that hopefully will last a lifetime.

We had media coverage of our trip in both countries and met the Irish Minister of Defense! The teams in Ireland have an open invitation to come to Rochester for a reciprocal visit (homestay, tournament, school visit...) when they have the opportunity.

I am contacting you to see if there is a possibility for our team to come to Germany this coming April, 2009, for a week to do the same thing we did in Ireland...have a cultural exchange...our girls have a home stay with an English speaking German family whose daughter plays for a local club, play in a tournament, do some site seeing, attend school with their German counterparts for a day or two, and more importantly use basketball as a way to make new friends and share sportsmanship with girls their age from another country.

I have been to Germany four times in the past six years, and think that this would be a wonderful opportunity for girls in both countries. Of course, we would house the German girls if/when they could come to Rochester to play in a return tournament with our team in the future

If you know of any clubs in Germany that may be willing to take part in such a cultural exchange with our club for one week in April, 2009, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you soon.

P.S. If you would like to take a look at what we did last year when we were preparing to go to Ireland, you can go to our old blog at wnyladylakers.blogspot.com/2008_03_09_archive.html

or a video story done by our local newspaper at http://democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080330/VIDEO01/80329006

Yours in Basketball
